What you need to know about child support.

Child support is mandatory in the State of Tennessee.

When clients come to my office to discuss child support, the information and/or advice they tell me that their friends and relatives have shared is the stuff of nightmares.

DO NOT LISTEN TO THE HORROR STORIES!

In Tennessee, the lawmakers wanted to come up with a way to make sure that your child was properly supported. Of, course, while no solution is ever perfect, Tennessee came up with a pretty good one: The TN Child Support Calculator.

What does the calculator do? The calculator allows anyone to use all the relevant financial information of both parents of a child to come up with a monthly amount that will allow the child to be financially supported in a way that is as close as possible to the way the child would be supported if both parents lived under one roof.

The amount of child support depends on numerous factors including, but not limited to, the income of both parents, the amount of time the child lives with each parent, which parent pays for health insurance and medical costs, and which parent pays for things like school costs and extracurriculars.

While no system is perfect, Tennessee created a calculator that anyone can use to get an idea of how much child support one parent may be obligated to pay.

CLICK HERE FOR THE TN CHILD SUPPORT CALCULATOR. This calculator should only be used for estimates because there may be some information that a non-attorney might add or omit that could change the final number. Also, there are exceptions to every rule and Court Approved deviations do happen.

If you use this calculator and would like further help, CLICK HERE and request a child support consultation.
